Halloween Boo-ty When ghosts and goblins visit you on Halloween, don't forget to stock up on the treats that everyone loves to find in their trick or treat bags. M&Ms Whether you like the plain, peanut, or almond, M&M'S® still seem to be at the top of most trick or treating lists. The little candies were born after Forrest Mars Sr., founder of the Mars Co., met soldiers during World War I who were eating pellets of chocolate with a hard coating that prevented the candy from melting. Did you know that M&M'S® also were chosen by the first space shuttle astronauts to be part of their food supply? Reese's Peanut Butter Cups The irresistable Reese's Peanut Butter Cup is that perfect combination of peanut butter in a milk chocolate cup, and Hershey's last year introduced Reese's Whips, a chocolate candy bar with a center of whipped nougat and peanut butter. The Whips have 40 percent less fat than many other chocolate bars, so you can have less guilt on Halloween. Tootsie Rolls® Nearly every trick or treater in America will find little Tootsie Rolls® in the bottom of his bag on Halloween this year, and the popular candy is more than 110 years old. More than 60 million of the chewy, chocolate candies are made each day by Tootsie Roll Industries, and they have changed very little over the years. Why mess with a good thing? Twizzlers Produced by Hershey, Twizzlers are commonly called "licorice" even though they're not licorice at all. Twizzlers come in cherry, strawberry, chocolate, watermelon, and licorice flavors, and in all sorts of shapes and sizes -- Twists, Bites, and Nibs. They're in just about every movie theater candy case, and your especially nice neighbors are likely to hand them out on Halloween. The signature nougat center is made by whipping egg whites and adding cocoa and malt flavorings. Candy Corn Last but not least, Halloween just wouldn't be the same without candy corn, the ubiquitous candy that's so popular during the holiday. These striped candies made to look like a kernel of corn, is made from sugar, corn syrup and honey. The National Confectioners Association estimates that a whopping 20 million pounds of candy corn are sold every year. Not surprisingly, Oct. 30 is National Candy Corn Day.
